For Sale By Owner

In 2003-2004 when the market was strong, For Sale by Owner’s were very successful.  The market was so strong that I often had difficulty competing with a For Sale by Owner.  I found that if they priced it correctly they stood a strong chance of selling.  Buyer’s were everywhere.  That has not been the case the following years.

For Sale by Owners successes have continued to decrease considerably most recently in 2010.  The National Association of Realtors (NAR) interviews buyers and sellers who have successfully completed both realtor and non-realtor assisted real estate closings.  According to their 2010 Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers, 9% of homes closed were by owner.  Half of those sales were because the seller knew the buyer.  Of the remainder 4.5% of total home sales that went by owner, 1 in 5 transactions were a mobile or manufactured home.  Of the remainder successful by owner closings, they were typically younger and had lower median incomes.  For a full copy of this report, email me.  I am happy to send you a copy.
